Alireza Mashayekhi

Piano: Farimah Ghavamsadri

In 1973, with renowned pianist Ophelia Kombadjian as her teacher, she graduated from the Tehran National Conservatory. She continued her education at the Ecole Normale de Musique de Paris where she received her musical diploma in piano education and chamber music in 1976. In 1993, she and Alireza Mashayekhi cofounded the Tehran Contemporary Music Group. She has held many world premier concerts of Mashayekhi's piano works, many of them are available on CD.

Mashayekhi has never been a proponent of descriptive music. But as we can see in his writings, he pays special attention to "l'association d'idée" which is why he sometimes choses titles such as THE BUTTERFLY OF ZAGROS MOUNTAINS. When Mashayekhi first heard a motive consisting of just six beats, he thought to himself ‘so light, as a butterfly over Zagros Mountain'. He then decided to exhaust the potential of this motive, especially in terms of development of a short folkloristic idea as the main component of an extensive composition.
