 Esma`il Adib-Khansari (1901-1982) was one of the stylish singers of Persian classical music. Regardless of his parents' opposition, he pursued singing in Esfehan under the supervision of such great musicians as Seyyed-Rahim, Habib Shater-Haji, Mirza-Hossein Sa'atsaz and Nayeb-Asadollah. In 1924, he came to Tehran and became familiar with the eminent musicians of that time. After recording a number of works in co-operation with them, Adib turned to be a famous singer.
Beside singing, he played setar as well as piano. The present work was performed in 1979 (about four years before his death), so it was obvious that he had lost his middle-aged power and freshness. The tar that accompanies Adib is played by Ebrahim Sarkhosh (1911-1981).
A number of manuscripts have been found beside the present work written in 1979 which further investigations proved them to be absolutely related to this album. The charts in the following pages are presented so that you can compare the names of Gushes as recorded by Adib in his manuscripts with their corresponding formal names mentioned in Radif. ...
